Consultant Interventional Radiologist Apply now

Consultant posts in Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology in North Wales

Work where you would love to live and be a part of an exciting new development to improve the health of the North Wales population.

About The Role

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is making a significant improvement in vascular and interventional radiology services, investing in a Hybrid Vascular Theatre and Interventional Radiology Suite at Glan Clwyd Hospital, replacing Interventional Radiology Imaging Equipment and facilities at Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor, with plans for further improvements to equipment at Wrexham Maelor Hospital during 2018/19.

We are now looking to appoint five dynamic and enthusiastic consultants; three Consultant Interventional Radiologists or Consultant Radiologists with a special interest in Interventional Radiology, and two Consultant Vascular Surgeons to join our team of six vascular surgeons and four interventional radiologists.

The successful candidates will join our new North Wales Vascular Network and the creation of a North Wales Interventional Radiology service.

Within Interventional Radiology a wide range of vascular and non-vascular interventional services are provided across all three principal hospitals in North Wales including EVAR, critical limb work, uterine artery embolisation, percutaneous biliary stenting, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, ureteric stents, gastrostomy and renal dialysis access.

Radiology Services

The radiology division is expanding in terms of workforce and hardware to meet the demands of our increasing workload. During 2015 three additional 6 CT Scanners have been installed. The health board recognises the importance of radiology in delivering national and local standards in many aspects of health care, and are investing in the expansion of radiology. We are currently planning to be in the first wave of LHBs in Wales to enter the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme (ISAS).

BCUHB provides a comprehensive primary and secondary care medical service to the population (with the exception of cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery and level 1 trauma services.) Our tertiary referral centre for trauma is at Stoke.

The locations of the services provided are currently being reviewed. The Radiologists support a wide range of multi-disciplinary team meetings and have good working relationships with the other clinical specialities. The radiotherapy unit is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital with separate medical oncology facilities present at both Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor and Ysbyty Maelor in Wrexham.

There is a fully established interventional service at all three sites although there is ongoing improvement at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital at present with a view to establishing a new IR suite and also a hybrid theatre for major arterial work. The interventional work is supported by dedicated nursing and radiographic staff. All three departments are busy, friendly departments, with good working relations across the three hospitals in BCUHB. A number of video conferences are being held, for cross site MDT meetings. There are departmental film libraries and full post graduate facilities available
on all three DGH sites.

All three general hospitals provide comprehensive interventional radiology services on site. The vascular workload extends from EVAR to crural angioplasty and renal access support. The Urology workload includes PCNL, nephrostomy and ureteric stenting. The gastroenterological workload includes RIG, GI haemorrhage and biliary intervention. There is also scope to develop an interventional oncology service in the future.
