Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board at Glan Clwyd Hospital

Applications are invited for Consultant posts in Gastroenterology with a specialist interest in Hepatology/Nutrition or ERCP based at the Glan Clwyd Hospital (YGC). This post has arisen due to increased demand for Gastroenterology and Hepatology services. The successful applicant will join a team that consists of 3 Gastroenterologists each of whom has a major subspecialty interest, and 22 other Physicians participating in the Acute Medical rota.

A wide experience of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Medicine will be required. With the appointment of these posts the department will have a total of 4.5 whole time equivalent Gastroenterologists, one Gastroenterology Specialist Registrar, and 4-6 junior doctors. There are 5 specialist nurses, 2 in Hepatology, 2 IBD Nurses/Nurse Endoscopists, and 1 Anaemia Nurse/Nurse Endoscopist/Endoscopy Trainer. The department receives additional support from site-specific Cancer Clinical Nurse specialists, and 2 Clinical Nurse Specialist Nutrition. The Endoscopy Unit (at WMH) is a center for Bowel Cancer Screening. WMH is the upper GI cancer center for North Wales.

The post holder will NOT be required to contribute to the acute medical take.

One of the main drivers for this post is the delivery of Gastroenterology services to the local population as well as the opportunity to undertake service development. In addition to facilitating the expansion of specialist and community hospital outpatient portfolio there will be opportunities to develop additional subspecialty interests complementary to those of the Consultant team.

Applicants should be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining a CCT/CESR in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at the time of the interview.

Terms and conditions are offered under the terms of the NHS Wales Medical and Dental Conditions of Service. The contract will be offered on a 10 to 12 session basis pending job planning discussions.

The post holder will be employed through Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) and be based at the Glan Clwyd Hospital (YGC).

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales, providing a full range of primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for a population of around 676,000 people, across the six counties of North Wales as well as some parts of mid-Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.

The Health Board also coordinates the work of 121 GP practices and NHS services provided by North Wales’ Dentists, Opticians and Pharmacies.
